When you hear NFL pundits say the season never ends, this is what they are referring to.

One of the more popular/important activities of the NFL Scouting Combine is the 40-yard dash. Entire careers are made (or broken) based on the amount of time it takes these prospects to travel 40 yards as quickly as they can. Not only have careers been made, but the NFL Scouting Combine also offers the opportunity to create a legend. Just ask Chris Johnson after his 40 time was posted.

Another legend that was born from the Combine’s 40-yard dash involves NFL Channel personality, Rich Eisen. In 2005, Eisen famously tried his luck at the infamous dash, complete with a suit and tie. His time? Well, let’s just say Chris Johnson’s legend is still safe. Now Eisen’s dash has become a yearly event, something the following video indicates quite well:

Now Eisen, along with the rest of the NFL family, is inviting you to do the same. His post has the details:

At any rate, the good folks at the NFL Network came up with this idea to have you to run in your work clothes at your work place, roll a camera on it and post the video. The best ones will air on NFL Network before I lace ‘em up again and make another molasses-like run at glory. Please, do not hurt yourself. And also do not cost yourself your job.

But, wherever you are, foreign or domestic, the one thing that you absolutely must do … is run.

Once the video is posted, Eisen recommends tweeting a link to his account (@RichEisen), the NFL’s (@NFL), or to the NFL Network (@NFLNetwork). Be sure to use the hashtag #RunRichRun.

Of course, the best and worst videos will be shown on the NFL Network, shortly before Eisen once again hurtles himself down the 40-yard distance. With that in mind, get to posting those 40-yard dash videos, if, for nothing else, to see how you stack up against future NFL pros, and, well, Rich Eisen, too. He created his blog in WordPress, posted his photos on Picasa and hosted videos on YouTube.

Homeowners know their properties better than anyone and can share the interesting, emotional stories and details through social media to engage and excite potential buyers. This added value can help turn a property into a home and take the seller all the way to the bank.

State of Search’s Louis Venter has an extensive account of Kaushik’s speech. One interesting part is what he says about bounce rate. I’m not sure if these were Kaushik’s exact words, but Venter writes, “Bounce rate shows you how much you suck.”

One issue that’s been debated in the industry is how much of a signal bounce rate is in Google’s algorithm. If this is the message Kaushik is sending, however, it stands to reason that this is the message Google is sending. He is, after all, the digital marketing evangelist for the company, and the analytics guru.

Another highlight was the following list of “things you should measure for social contribution” as Venter conveys:

1) Conversation rate – if you talk does anyone care? The number of audience comments per social contribution will help measure this.

4) Economic Value – sum of your macro and micro conversions and how they contribute to your overall picture

A few months back there was a flurry of blog posts and conversations over Twitter both for and against the now fairly common practice of using hashbang urls (example) and JavaScript routing in favor of traditional URLs and full page loads. There is also growing interest around several JavaScript MVC frameworks that are make heavy use of this technique. Since people started doing this kind of thing I’ve been pretty squeamish about the idea. At the time that this discussion erupted across the web I really wanted to comment on it but until recently, although I was almost certain that hashbang URLs were destructive, I found myself unable to put in definite terms why.

As you probably know if you’ve been reading this blog for a while, I have for a long time been an avid proponent of progressive enhancement and as many people correctly pointed out many of the arguments against hashbang URLs seemed to fold this philosophy in which clouded the issue quite a lot. In a well reasoned post, my colleague, Ben Cherry pointed this out and expressed that it wasn’t really hashbangs that were the problem and that they were merely a temporary work around until we get pushState support. As he put it, “It’s Not About The Hashbang”.

After quite a lot of thought and some attention to some of the issues that surround web apps that use hashbang URLs I’ve come to conclusion that it most definitely isabout the hashbangs. This technique, on its own, is destructive to the web. The implementation is inappropriate, even as a temporary measure or as a downgrade experience.

In a new study from Northern Illinois University, the University of Evansville and Auburn University researchers had a team rate and review Facebook profiles of recently employed college students. The raters were given about ten minutes to review photos, posts, comments and interests on each profile and were then asked to answer a series of questions relating to personality. After six months, the ratings from the Facebook scores were compared to the graduates’ employee evaluations and a strong correlation was found between their scores and their actual job performance.

Desirable traits for employers such as conscientiousness, agreeability and intellectual curiosity were consistent with higher ratings and positives were also given to graduates with more friends, a wide range of hobbies, interests and that traveled. Surprisingly, party shots didn’t really hurt candidates showing they were friendly and outgoing instead. Don Kluemper, a professor of management at Northern Illinois University and the lead researcher says that since candidates have a hard time “faking” their personalities in front of their friends, Facebook could continue to be used as a reliable job screening tool and performance predictor.

Some other interesting information according to All Twitter is that 47% of employers check social networking sites to screen prospective employees after receiving their application. Facebook is checked by 76% of employers, Twitter by 53% and LinkedIn by 48%. The good news is that 68% of employers have hired an employee because of something they saw about the candidate on a social networking site.
